The Queendom of Odruila is the westernmost of the major elven queendoms. It is a traditional matriarchal realm located several hundred miles north of the Sredozemno More, directly bordering the Kingdom of Atozar to the south and the Kingdom of Naican to the west.
Geography & Location
- Lies in the northern temperate landmass, with the Vraitnik Planina forming much of its southern border with Atozar.
- Terrain consists of extensive forested highlands, river valleys, and defensible mountain passes.
- Climate is temperate with cooler winters and moderate summers, moderated somewhat by distance from the Sredozemno More.
Size & Population (Locked)
- Area: Approximately 180,000 – 220,000 square miles (larger in territory than Atozar but with much lower population density due to elven demographics).
- Population: Approximately 1.4 – 1.8 million (predominantly elven, with small human minorities in border trade zones). The low population reflects elven longevity combined with very low fertility rates.
Government & Political Structure
- Strongly matriarchal and feudal in nature. Power is decentralized among a network of major and minor noble houses, each ruled by a matriarch.
- The Queen (currently Sylmare Lyeecia Holafaren) holds nominal supreme authority but must govern through negotiation, alliances, and personal prestige rather than direct bureaucratic control.
- The system evolved over millennia from earlier centralized elven empires that repeatedly collapsed due to demographic fragility and the inherent limits of individual-caster magic. The current decentralized model is a stable equilibrium that matches the realities of low fertility and the Augmented Three-Day Rule.
Military & Defense
- Relies on the Royal Odruilan Guards (elite, personally enhanced female warriors) as the core of its professional forces, supplemented by house levies and militia.
- The three Erynian guards (Siphanien, Meriel, Nakiasha) are members of this elite corps.
- Defense focuses on border security along the Vraitnik Planina and the Naican frontier, with heavy emphasis on small, highly skilled units rather than large standing armies.
Economy & Society
- Primarily land-based (forestry, agriculture, and estate holdings).
- Emerging trade with Atozar along the Nereth River is increasing the influence of more adaptable “trade matriarchs,” creating tension with traditional landed houses.
- Grothian elves are a small but powerful minority; their presence is often viewed with suspicion or envy by light-elf houses.
Relations with Neighbors
- Atozar: Generally cordial but cautious; trade is important, but cultural differences create friction.
- Naican: Tense and occasionally hostile; lingering effects of the old Empire of Sherpven and border skirmishes keep relations cold.
- Confederation of Jabezidanian City-States: Distant but relevant through occasional slave raids and black-market trade in restraint artifacts.
- Grothian Houses: Complicated; Grothians are tolerated for their magical talent but remain socially isolated.
Key Settlements
- The Queen’s Court (capital) is located in a central highland region, serving as the political and ceremonial heart of the queendom.
